Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how The Canny Coyote LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the web application named Gas Price Analysis and Forecast Dashboard(the "Service"), available at gaspricedash.com and related pages. By using the Service, you acknowledge this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use. For the rules governing use of the Service, see our Terms of Use.

1. Who we are

The Service is operated by The Canny Coyote LLC, a United States company. For privacy-related requests, use the contact channels published on this site when available, or the support path linked in the footer. We will verify reasonable requests where required by law.

2. Information we process

The Service is designed as an educational dashboard. Depending on how you use it, the following categories may apply:

  • Device and browser data. Like most websites, when you request pages your device sends technical data (for example IP address, user agent, and timestamp) to our hosting and security providers as part of delivering the site and protecting against abuse.
  • Local storage on your device. The interface saves display preferences — such as your selected region and tank size — in your browser's localStorage. That data remains on your device unless your browser or account sync copies it elsewhere.
  • Optional location inputs. If you use the ZIP or GPS feature to set your region, see Section 3 for the full explanation of how that works.
  • Aggregate operational data. Each time the Service refreshes its price data from the EIA, our systems record a small set of aggregate, non-identifying statistics to support data source reliability and service improvement. None of this data can be linked to an individual user or device.
  • Voluntary price reports. If you choose to submit a local fuel price through the reporting widget, we collect the reported price, fuel grade, selected region, your IP address, and optionally a ZIP code. See Section 4 for full details.

3. ZIP code and location features

The dashboard lets you enter a U.S. ZIP code or click "Use my location" so it can automatically select the EIA price region closest to you. Here is exactly what happens and does not happen:

  • Processed in your browser only. Whether you type a ZIP code or grant GPS access, the mapping from your input to the appropriate EIA price region happens entirely in JavaScript running on your device. Your ZIP digits and GPS coordinates are never transmitted to any server we operate.
  • What gets stored. Only the matched EIA region name (e.g., "West Coast" or "Midwest") is saved to localStorage on your device as your selected region preference. The raw ZIP code and precise coordinates are not stored by us anywhere.
  • GPS permission prompt. Clicking "Use my location" triggers your browser's standard geolocation permission request. You can deny it at any time — doing so does not affect any other feature on the site. If you previously allowed access, you can revoke it in your browser or device settings.
  • What this adds to your experience. Setting your location pre-selects the regional price chart, weekly forecast, and fill-up timing guidance for your area instead of the national average. It is a convenience feature only and does not change what data is collected.
  • How to clear it. A "Clear" button next to the location fields removes the detected region from the panel state. You can also clear localStorage in your browser's developer tools or storage settings at any time.

We do not use ZIP codes or coordinates to build a personal profile, serve targeted content, or share data with advertisers. If a future feature changes any of this, this section will be updated before the feature launches.

Note on the price-reporting widget: Unlike the location detection feature above, if you voluntarily enter a ZIP code in the price-reporting form, that ZIP code is transmitted to our server as part of the submission. Entry is optional; the price report is accepted without it.

4. Voluntary local price reports

The dashboard includes an optional feature that lets you share a fuel price you observed at a local station. This is entirely voluntary. If you choose to submit a price, we collect:

  • Reported price and fuel grade. The price per gallon and the fuel grade (regular, midgrade, premium, or diesel) you enter.
  • Selected region. The EIA price region active in your dashboard session at the time of submission (e.g., "U.S. National" or "East Coast").
  • IP address. Your IP address is recorded to enforce rate limits and to detect coordinated false submissions. We do not use it to identify you individually or to track your browsing across the site.
  • Optional ZIP code. If you enter a ZIP code in the reporting form, it is transmitted to and stored on our server to help attribute the report to a sub-region. Entry is optional and the report is accepted without it.
  • State abbreviation. If your dashboard session has a detected state (set via the ZIP or GPS feature), that two-letter state abbreviation is transmitted alongside your price report to assist with regional attribution. It is not stored separately from the report.
  • Reference price and deviation. We validate submissions against current EIA reference data to protect data quality. Submissions that appear inaccurate may be reviewed or discarded.

Submitted price data is used to monitor local price trends and to inform future improvements to the Service. We do not sell or share individual price reports with third parties. IP addresses associated with price reports are used solely for abuse prevention and are not linked to a persistent identity profile. Submitted data may be retained in aggregate form to support long-term service improvement.

5. Analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics)

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic — such as page views and high-level performance signals — to improve reliability and content. Cloudflare describes this product as privacy-first and often cookieless; it may use a lightweight JavaScript beacon. Depending on your jurisdiction or browser settings, that script might not run on your visit.

Processing related to Cloudflare services may involve Cloudflare, Inc.and subprocessors. See Cloudflare's documentation and privacy notices for details of their products. We do not use analytics to sell your personal information.

6. Hosting and security

The Service is delivered through Cloudflare and other infrastructure providers. Those platforms may keep limited logs for security, abuse prevention, and operations. We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the Service.

7. International users

We operate from the United States. If you access the Service from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you should know that information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) as described by our processors or applicable law.

8. Retention

We retain information only as long as necessary for the purposes above, including satisfying legal obligations and resolving disputes. Aggregate analytics may be stored in forms that do not identify you.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of personal information, or to object to processing or port data. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise rights that apply to you, contact us using the channels provided on this site. We may need to verify your request.

10. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes your acknowledgment of the revised policy where permitted by law.
